The 2025 Chesapeake Bay GAM at Maryland Yacht Club was a sold-out success, with every slip filled and a fleet anchored out to join the fun. Cruisers packed the clubhouse and tents for fellowship, workshops, and a keynote from Nigel Calder, the internationally recognized author of Boatowner’s Mechanical and Electrical Manual and one of the most
respected technical voices in cruising. Nigel’s address inspired attendees and was capped by the announcement that he will receive SSCA’s prestigious Southbound II Award in 2025, honoring extraordinary contributions to the cruising community.
The weekend also marked the launch of SSCA’s new AI Application—HAL, the SSCA AI Assistant—with nearly 100 young HALs installed during a hands-on workshop. HAL fuses key cruising data into a single view, from PortCards to LNMs, giving members a new way to access trusted resources afloat. Looking ahead, SSCA will be at the Annapolis Sailboat Show, Booth M2, and hosts the Florida Cruisers’ Conference/GAM in Melbourne, FL, November 14–16, 2025. Featured speakers include Bob Sherer (Bob423), Kerry Gonzales (AMG International Insurance), Chris Parker (MWXC), Commodore Scott Berg (on lithium and new technology), and more.
