SSCA Islesboro, Maine Gam

About this event

SSCA Islesboro GAM Returns to Maine

After a 25 year break, in 2025 Dick and Kathy de Grasse hosted an informal SSCA/OCC BYOB GAM at their waterfront home on Broad Cove, Islesboro, Maine. And they are continuing that wonderful rekindled tradition this year.

After sailing around the Atlantic to Europe and throughout the Caribbean for 20+ years on their Tartan 34’ ENDEAVOUR, Richard and Kathy have retired to their waterfront home on Broad Cove, Islesboro, Maine. The GAMS of years past were so successful – 97 boats anchored all over Gilkey Harbor during the last Gam of 1997 – that Dick and Kathy, with the help of their son, Scott, and his partner, Nita, decided to continue the tradition. It is a BYOB affair, and we will have port-o-potties available, as well as tents and tables.

Last year, and we expect this year, Scott’s boat, KATARA, will be anchored in the sheltered Broad Cove at 44deg, 16.945’N, 68deg, 55.914’W. The holding is mud but one enjoys a 12’ tide. You can tie up dinghies on the beach in front of the house, or at the dock at the Islesboro Ferry landing. The walk to the house (3rd drive on the right) is about half a mile. Feel free to call the house 207.734.6948, or Nita’s cell 802.424.6131 if you need help and someone will be along to fetch you.

More Details updated 7/27/2026:

Folks are welcome at 11 am till whenever. The event is BYOB and pot luck. We will have a grill available for those that bring burgers, dogs etc.  We will also have a nice surprise from the Islesboro Oyster Company, who will be shucking on site.  $2 per.  Harvested from Broad Cove directly in front of our home.  We have a speaker and a mic available as well for those cruisers that want to swap stories.

For those staying on their boats, our Island Community Center is having its annual fundraising concert starting at 6pm ($25 gets you space on the lawn and a great concert).  This year's concert featuring the band Finestkind with two brothers from Vinalhaven and their friend, soul-singer extraordinaire Kenya Hall!

For those interested we can probably arrange transport to and from the Grindle Point Ferry Dock. Tend or space available on the east/west dock.  You’ll see them.

Our place, is 508 Ferry Road - at end of drive turn right. You’ll see a 250th banner on carriage house.  It’s a 10 minute walk from the dock.  Dingy raft-up Friday 5pm “ish” off Katara at Lat 44 16.954 Lon 68 15.914.

Below you will find a simple NAV chart of Gilkey Harbor and Broad Cove for the upcoming GAM this Saturday on Islesboro.

On the chart, I have indicated suitable anchorage areas where the bottom is pretty much flat mud with solid holding.  Of course, proper scope for a 12' tide should be observed.

The best access to our location 508 Ferry Road is via the Grindle Point Ferry public dock.  There is ample tie-up space for small tenders on the north side of the dingy dock.  Outboards should be kept down so as not to damage others.   We are a short 10 minute walk from the dock.  Third driveway on the right.   Those adventurous soles can beach their tenders in front of our home - located at the Star on the chart. Tide is full at MidDay. Time - 11AM till whenever.

Registration is not mandatory but you can add your name here so we can get a headcount. Or email your RSVP to Nicole at office@ssca.org.
