St Brendan's Isle Reliability ?

by Shawbrownshaw » Tue Jan 08, 2013 12:28 pm

Hello,

Relatively new to cruising as six months into it. Looking to see if others have had issues with St Brendan's Isle or if our case is an isolated incident.

They have lost or misrouted a piece of our mail which unfortunately contained a check. So potentially out of pocket, another admin hassle and have had to hassle friends and family to check mail etc.

If this is not an isolated incident then we will find another solution.

Thanks,

Max

Been with SBI for 8 years. Never had a problem, and have had more than one experience where they delivered a service over and above what they promise. The only times I've had problems with forwarded mail was on the receiving end (e.g., Marina mishandled).
Sorry to hear of your experience. I do believe it was an isolated incident.

I introduced Scott & Doug at the Annapolis GAM a few years ago (I've been a customer for years, they're the best). I asked the crowd, about 250 SSCA members, to stand if they lived at 411 Walnut Street; more than half did... for good reason... Their service is outstanding

Great to hear. Every organisation can have hiccups so we will likely give them the benefit of the doubt.

We, too have had excellent service from SBI. One funny (if it had happened to someone else) mail event we had involved the USPS and not SBI: We were going to be home over the holidays so stopped forwarding in November of year one and requested forwarding to stop in January of year 2. (We use SBI part time now) Unfortunately I used the old year for January also (so the stop date was in January and the start date in Nov OF THE SAME YEAR so many months after the stop date. The postal service did not connect the dots nor ask for clarification so all of our holiday mail was returned to sender!

We are almost a year into our liveaboard cruising, and mail has turned out to be one of the least of our concerns, whereas before we left I think it generated the greatest amount of angst. Living at 4111 Walnut St. has made mail services quite simple and unconcerning.

So much physical mail is irrelevant if you have scans. We get a few things forwarded, but just the scanning and a good system for maintaining order seems to eliminate the need to physically "hold everything" in your hand before dispensing with it. I can see the day coming when the world will not have mailed invoices, newsletters, bills, account statements etc. Email and scanning is the future of mail.

We have used them for about 10 years. nothing ever lost, but have had two
occasions where I received someone else's mail (a single piece). I returned it
to St B's with a note as I would hope others would do in a similar circumstance.
I find that for all they handle, they've done an excellent job.

We have been using the folks at St Brendan's Isle since 2007. In addition to a mail forwarding service, they also provide us with a Florida address. We are Florida residents, although we do not own a home in Florida. Our boat is registered in Florida. We split our time between the Bahamas and Florida. St B's even does our documentation renewal. They send us our mail few times a season in the islands, and during the summer to our marina.
